Sunnyside

Sunnyside is a 1930s beach subdivision on the west end of Panama City Beach, between Laguna Beach and the Walton County line.

The beach at Sunnyside

A neighborhood between the dune lakes and the towers.

Sunnyside is one of the oldest names on the beach. M.E. McCorquodale bought the land in 1927, and he and his wife platted "Sunnyside on the Gulf" in 1935. On the west end, the old highway along the Gulf is now Front Beach Road (State Road 30).

The beach strip

The 1935 plat set aside the land between the highway and the Gulf as "Sunnyside Park" for the subdivision's lot owners. In 1953 the Florida Supreme Court upheld that dedication as a private easement. That's why the Gulf side of Front Beach Road stays open along this stretch.

Where it is

Laguna Beach is to the east. Riviera Beach, Carillon Beach and the Walton County line are farther west. Pier Park is about 15 minutes east, and US 98 runs inland for errands.
