Lower Grand Lagoon

The beach side of Grand Lagoon, from Thomas Drive to St. Andrews State Park.

The smaller census place, closer to the pass.

Lower Grand Lagoon is the strip between Grand Lagoon and the Gulf along Thomas Drive, ending at St. Andrews State Park. It's unincorporated Bay County. About 4,400 people live here year-round, and far more in season: two of every three homes were vacant on Census Day 2020, a count that includes vacation homes.

Beach access

This is the county's beach-access stretch. Bay County's access list shows 23 public accesses on Spyglass, Gulf and Surf drives, most with walkovers and handrails. The accesses at the end of Choctaw Street and just west of Bonita Street have mobility mats. The county doesn't list parking, so read the signs at each access.

The east end

St. Andrews State Park caps the strip with Gulf and bay beaches, the jetties and the shuttle to Shell Island. Schooners is at 5121 Gulf Drive by the first accesses, and Treasure Island Marina sits on the lagoon at 3605 Thomas Drive.

Getting around

Pier Park is about 20 minutes west. Downtown Panama City is about 25 minutes over the Hathaway Bridge. Summer traffic on Thomas Drive adds time. Find zoned schools with the Bay District Schools zone lookup.
