Callaway is its own city, east of Panama City past Springfield, with Tyndall Parkway running through it toward Tyndall Air Force Base. About 13,000 people lived here at the 2020 Census. It's a town of neighborhoods, bayous and ballfields, well away from beach traffic.
Callaway was platted in 1911. In 1936, after an argument over where a new school should go, residents voted 42 to 2 to incorporate. The city went inactive, came back in 1959 and re-formed in 1963. City Hall is at 6601 E. Highway 22.
The 80-acre Callaway Recreational Complex at 500 Callaway Park Way is the town's backyard. It has seven baseball and softball fields, soccer fields, a five-acre stocked children's fishing pond, a one-mile clay walking trail with fitness stations, playgrounds, pavilions and a retired F-101 Voodoo fighter on display. It's open daily from 7 a.m. to dusk. The Callaway Arts & Conference Center on the same grounds holds the city commission chamber and rents rooms for weddings and parties.
The city's regular events include a Children's Fishing Rodeo on the Saturday of Father's Day weekend and Christmas in Callaway on the second Friday in December. The city calendar has each year’s details.
